Today Ajman University’s Sheikh Zayed hall marked the opening of one of the most important events in the world of architecture, the opening of Ajman Urban Planning Conference 2008, the second conference. It started with a 3d presentation of some developments going on in the emirate of Ajman, a presentation about the future planning of the city and its current phases; Ajman will have better transportation by 2030.
Then the starting lecture by Mr. REM KOOLHAAS fired up. I was disappointed; I think it lasted for 20 minutes tops. He discussed his thoughts about iconography in architecture as he always displays the “egotistical” results that fill the horizon of cities around the world. Koolhaas’s presentation was most important to me because of one point: “I think it’s time that you people here in the UAE should think of the Emirates as one project going on together, and to produce developments that share mutual adjustments.”
