I wanted to write about this artist for a long time, and now since I started classes with him I can gather the thoughts I had while sitting in his studio.

Yousef Dweik is a palestinian artist, he was born in Jerusalem in 1963. He studied Fine Arts in Al-Yarmouk University and graduated with a bachelor degree in Oil Painting in 1985. What makes Mr. Dweik’s art stand out is it’s rich content; he went back to the roots of his Palestinian identity and the previous generations to what is today Palestine. He uses Kana’ani figures which is the original civilization of Palestine and puts them through his own works to feature them as the cities of palestine as a whole.

One of the things Mr. Dweik has done as well is freeing his works from the conventional canvas rectangular or square border, he features the context in the way he feels best demonstrates its content and creates a strong medium to his figures.

One of his works that I loved refers to Yafa; Yafa’s Oranges and the way the people in Yafa peel the oranges spirally unlike others, connecting Yafa to its people.

I’m going to write about our meetings right after each meeting and my impressions of his work and a diary of my progress with him. For now watch this short documentary about him done by graphic designer Madi Mohammed.

i apreciate such an Art, as well as an artist, who was my teacher in a time -freehand drawing course- and i remember the strong touches he likes to add to the drawing, or the paintings, at the time we worked with colours.
i like these True squared boards, and the irrigular circular shaped ones, even the colors and figures.
We should be proud of our cultures ; to let the people know that we do have a Rich History.i think u should this- In case u did not- :
